New build after ~9 years, looking for opinions on parts lists
Hello all. After 9 years, I am looking to build a replacement rig, reusing a small set of parts. As I've been out of the game for quite some time, I'd appreciate any feedback or thoughts regarding my new parts list.
Current build, slapped together around 2017, just to provide context:
- CPU: i7-7700k
- GPU: RTX 2070 super
- COOLER: Corsair Hydro H100i v2
- MOBO: Asus Prime Z270-A
- RAM: G.Skill Tridentz 2x8gb, DDR4 3200
- MEMORY: Multiple sata 6.0gb SSDs and an HDD
- CASE: NZXT Elite S340VR
- PSU - Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold
I play a mix of FPS, indie , and some open world / survival stuff. Goal would be to play modern titles on at 1440p and with >60 FPS. I plan on making the jump to an AMD build as follows.
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D - $376 (seems like this CPU is still king, right?)
- GPU: RX 9070 XT 16 GB - $739
- COOLER: Thermalright Peerless Assassin - $35
- MOBO: MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max Wifi - $200
- RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 - 2x16, DDR5 6000, CL36 - $410
- MEMORY: reuse from old build, I have confirmed mobo should have enough sata ports.
- CASE: Fractal Design North ATX mid tower case (wooden slats in front) - $155
- PSU - think my current PSU can keep up? if not, I will look at a Montech 850W 80+ Gold ($90)
PCPartPicker List for reference. I will also mention that while I have never shopped at a MicroCenter, I live about 2.5 hours away from one, and could feasibly make the drive to save a few hundred bucks.
Goal is to save money on cooler, memory, and possibly PSU, while still ending up with a build that rips though games at 1440p on high settings. Thoughts? Any alternatives to be mindful of or watch on the used market?
