An open-source Windsurf extension so you appear on a globe when you code

Hello! 👋

We just launched a free and open-source project for developers: DevGlobe 🌍

The idea: while you're coding, you appear on a globe so you can:

  • Show your projects / GitHub
  • Discover what other devs are working on
  • Track your coding time (per-repo, per-file, per-branch breakdowns)
  • Build a public dev profile (stats + projects + activity, shareable like https://devglobe.app/developers/nako00)
  • Motivate yourself to code (leaderboard and statistics)

Privacy first:

  • Anonymous mode → a random city in your country (default)
  • Standard mode → only your city is shown (never your exact location)
  • Private mode → completely off the globe (if you just want the stats, goals, leaderboards, or to showcase your projects)

100% free

100% open source

Your personal data and your code are never sent to the backend

🌍 Globe: https://devglobe.app/space

If you are interested or have any questions, everything is explained on the website, but don't hesitate to ask, I will be happy to answer your questions!

Hey everyone 👋

I posted DevGlobe here back in March when it was mostly a globe + social layer. A lot of you asked for deeper stats and insights, so that's what I spent the last 2 months building.

Now it comes with a full coding insights dashboard:

  • Per-repo, per-file, per-branch, per-language time breakdowns
  • Insights on your coding patterns (peak hours, where your week really goes, language trends over time)
  • Daily and weekly goals with notifications
  • A public dev profile you can share, with your stats and projects (like https://devglobe.xyz/developers/nako00)
  • Private leaderboards if you want to compete with friends or your team
  • Project directory where you drop your projects and get comments and upvotes

Privacy: code never leaves your machine. Anonymous mode default (random city in your country), private mode for fully off-the-grid usage if you just want the stats without appearing anywhere.

100% free, 100% open source.

🌍 The Website : https://devglobe.xyz/

💻 Source code : https://github.com/Nako0/devglobe-extension

Honest feedback welcome on the dashboard side, what's missing, what's broken, what's actually useful day-to-day?

Hey everyone 👋

I posted here back in March about an extension I was building (DevGlobe), which was mostly the social globe layer at the time. A lot of the feedback was "cool concept but where are the actual stats?" Which was fair, so I spent the last 2 months building exactly that.

Also: WakaTime-compatible endpoint, so anyone already using WakaTime can plug in by swapping one URL.

Privacy: code never leaves your machine. Anonymous mode default (random city in your country), private mode for fully off-the-grid usage if you just want the stats without appearing anywhere.

100% free, 100% open source.

Hello! 👋

We launched a free and open-source project for developers: DevGlobe 🌍

The idea: while you're coding, you appear on a globe so you can:

  • Track your coding stats (per repo, per file, per branch, per language) with real insights into your patterns
  • List your projects (open source, side projects, or startups)
  • Build a public dev profile (stats + projects + activity, ready to share like this)
  • Motivate yourself to code (goals, badges, private leaderboards with friends)

Already using WakaTime? The endpoint is WakaTime-Compatible, just point your existing client at it and you'll appear on the globe with no new extension needed.

Privacy first:

  • Anonymous mode → a random city in your country
  • Standard mode → only your city is shown (never your exact location)
  • Private mode → completely off the globe (if you just want the stats, goals, leaderboards, or to showcase your projects)

100% free

100% open source

A couple months back we posted DevGlobe on a few dev subs. 5 posts, around 170k views, 400 signups, peak 73 active devs on a single day. Should have been hyped.

We weren't. Instead we shut up and disappeared for 2 months. Reason was simple, the product was thin. Cool concept (a 3D globe where devs appear when they code) but barely any stats, no project pages, no goals, no leaderboards. People signed up, installed the extension, and most of them kept it installed. They still show up as active on the globe because the extension keeps running in the background, but barely anyone came back to the actual site. Cool toy, no real utility, no reason to return once you'd seen the globe spin.

Biggest lesson: views don't matter if there's nothing to come back to. So we rebuilt almost everything.

The last 2 months shipped:

  • Full coding stats dashboard (per repo, per file, per branch, per language) with actual insights into your coding patterns and where your time really goes
  • Project directory where devs showcase what they're building, with comments and upvotes
  • Goals with notifications
  • Private leaderboards you create with friends or your team
  • WakaTime compatible endpoint, so anyone already on WakaTime can plug in with zero friction
  • Full extension rewrite, lighter, cleaner, support for 26+ editors and AI tools (VSCode and forks, JetBrains, NeoVim, Zed, Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, etc.)
  • Light/dark mode, private mode for full invisibility on the globe, granular privacy controls

Basically went from a fun globe demo to a real WakaTime alternative with a social and visual layer on top. Still 100% free, 100% open source, your code never leaves your machine.

Today we're restarting the marketing push. Free, no ads, no funding. We'll keep posting updates here as the numbers move. Hopefully the curve looks less flat this time.

Site is at https://devglobe.xyz/. Source is on https://github.com/Nako0/devglobe-extension

Roasts and feedback welcome !

Hello! 👋

We've been building DevGlobe for the past couple of months: a free and open-source project for developers 🌍
A lot has shipped recently (full coding stats tracking, WakaTime compatibility, private leaderboards…) so it felt like a good time to share it here.

The idea: while you're coding, you appear on a globe so you can:

  • Show your projects / GitHub
  • Discover what other devs are working on
  • Connect with developers around the world
  • Track your coding stats (per-repo, per-file, per-branch breakdowns)
  • Motivate yourself to code (goals, badges, private leaderboards with friends)
  • Don't code alone

Already using WakaTime? The endpoint is WakaTime-compatible : just point your existing extension at it and you'll appear on the globe with no new extension to install.

Privacy first:

  • Anonymous mode → a random city in your country
  • Standard mode → only your city is shown (never your exact location)
  • Private mode → completely off the globe (your stats stay private, you just don't appear)

100% free

100% open source

Your personal data and your code are never sent to the backend

Extensions available on:

  • VS Code and its forks (Cursor, Windsurf, Antigravity…)
  • JetBrains IDEs
  • NeoVim
  • Zed
  • Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and more (26+ editors and AI tools supported)

Under the hood: The globe runs on MapLibre GL JS (open-source map rendering) with basemap styles from CARTO, dark theme, vector tiles, smooth 3D globe projection. The frontend is Next.js + React + TypeScript. No polling, no refresh, when someone starts coding, their marker appears instantly.
