I work nights and commute from one of the quieter areas in Baguio, and this happens to me pretty often, especially lately—random people pulling up and offering me a ride. Sometimes they match taxi fares, sometimes they even offer it for free. Just fyi hindi normalised ang angkas sa Baguio.
I am grateful that people are kind enough to offer, and I’m especially grateful that when I say no, even when I say natatakot ako, they don’t get mad or pushy. I really appreciate that.
But at the same time, it’s still uncomfortable for me.
It’s not about thinking everyone has bad intentions. It’s more about the lack of security.
If I get dumped somewhere or go missing, Id rather the police get a footage of me getting into a taxi which they can very easily trace, rather than a random vehicle.
I’ve even had a taxi driver make a pass at me before, so I know no option is perfectly safe. But still... maybe pag meron nang app or some system na may some degree of security, then I'll be less uncomfortable with angkas hahaha.
So even on days na gipit sa pamasahe, I still decline.
Just sharing.
