Mudi 7 vs Netgear M7 Portable
I have the 2 devices. Initially I took the Netgear because I saw that the Mudi 7 was not going to operate well outside of North America.
The Netgear Nighthawk 5g portable device is smaller and seems more robust.
The Mudi 7 device is thicker and bigger, but not that bad at all, it’s like two iphone 17 pro stacked on each other.
The Mudi 7 is better on all aspects, antennas ports, wan/lan port, 2 USB-C port, large touch screens, VPN, removable battery and more.
The only thing is that the Netgear is supported in 200+ countries with more bands. I’m currently traveling in Japan. I took the best esim for the Netgear device, and kept my Google fi esim for Mudi 7. Out of 5 locations, only Tokyo had better speed for Netgear compared to Mudi 7. I mostly tested from my hotels only. Most devices were not used in almost all spots 5G was too slow and hotel wifi was better.
Overall, i’m questioning now keeping my Netgear. I might try to see the difference in Europe, next. Only the size is better at this stage.
Just a quick review in case it’s helping few others to choose.
Mudi 7 Antenna review thread
Like many of you, I’m interested in using Antenna, in hotel, when the signal is not the best. I started testing few antennas. So far the Netgear Mimo is not good and doesn’t provide any improvements on my side. I started testing with the Proxicast and got some descent results as below. See comments. The only downside is that the proxicast are a bit heavy so once you put them, you can’t really move the device e as they are loose. I created this post so we can all share our antennas results. Thank you!
Hi all, I love my Nighthawk 5G M7 and just bought the Mudi 7. I’m posting a quick comparison in case some people are interested.
In term of size, the Mudi 7 is thicker than the netgear and a bit bigger. The Mudi 7 is exactly like 2 iphones stacked on each other.
The netgear is faster to start and has way more bands than the Mudi 7 US model. For example, in US I have the same speed and connection, but traveling in Asia, the Mudi 7 is getting 4G only where the Netgear is getting 5G and better speed. The netgear is also more portable, seems more robust. Turn on and forget it. It works all the time.
The Mudi 7 has a better battery, removable, better touch screen, two TS9 antennas ports, one wan port, 2 USB c ports. VPN function and way more features with OpenWRT. So on this side, it’s a game changer. I plugged TS9 proxicast antennas and get way better connection and speeds.
I’m planning to keep the Mudi 7 for my travels in North America, as I’m US based, and take the Netgear for all over travels outside of the US.
