Car electrical system failed within 2 minutes of leaving a mechanics shop. What should I do? 2010 ford escape 2.5L L4 DOHC 16V
TLDR at the end.
Took the car in to an auto shop for an oil change and a diagnostic on rear door which is stuck closed. After picking up, within 2 minutes driving on the road the car suddenly started stuttering violently in the middle of the street. I was able to drive it to the side and turn on the blinkers. First video, shaking sounds and feel a lot worse than the video appears.
When I turn off the ignition and restart the car, the red battery sign turns on, within 10 seconds, shaking returns. At this point I have no control over steering or brakes, I am still in the side of the road obstructing traffic. Everytime I turn the ignition, I have ~ 5 seconds where the steering wheel isn't locked. I have to shift to neutral, adjust the wheel, and let the car slide a few feet backward before loosing control and stepping on parking brake and shifting gear to park before skidding another few feet. Repeating this for 3 minute I was able to get it into a parking spot ~50 feet away. Extremely terrifying and dangerous
ATP I ran to the auto shop which was only like 2 blocks away and explained to a technician or engineer what happened, they asked me can the car make it back to the shop and I said no. They are closed so they say to show up tomorrow morning and they'll "make it right. I go back to the car, at this point I can't start the engine at all.
Their diagnostic of the door involve taking off door panel and testing actuator by jumping the wiring. Their request for repair is like 1000 dollars to replace the actuator so I refused and have them put the panel back. The "rear door light ajar" light was stuck on afterward, the original plan was to go back tmrw morning for them to turn off the sensor.
TLDR took car in for oil change and diagnostics, 2 min on the road the electrical system failed.
Currently the car is just in a parking lot overnight around 2 blocks away from the shop.
What are my options rn? The entire car seems fuckd. It's visibly something they did. How much do their obligations reach? Can they fix the car? If not do car insurance typically cover this? Can I / should I sue them if not? I kinda just signed their waiver without reading it thoroughly. I have until tmrw morning before they open.
Shop is midas, been there before and they're fairly expensive for ok service, 4.4 star on google.
