My experience
Just a little backstory first. I immigrated to Canada when I was 10-11ish, with no English knowledge. The only family I have here is my mom, and she works very hard to provide for me. It was very difficult adjusting for the first couple years and it got better over time. I am 20 now.
I've been gifted and I haven't given it much importance to me. I've never talked about it with my parents, and I've only ever attended normal classes in my grade. And my main goal I've had for years is to achieve great things so that my mom won't have to work. Now I am in university studying math, and I just finished my second year. It has been a breeze even though I am in an honors program. I do below average work and get excellent results. And I also love what I am learning since its very interesting.
It's really awesome being surrounded by very smart people in my program, but I instinctively don't like to think about who's smart and who's not. I prefer not to place importance on that, and just be friends with them and not place any judgements. I treat everyone in my life the same way.
It would be really great to hear similar stories, and also to hear some advice if you have any.
