[US]I would like to bring attention to a sophisticated scam involving GrubHub and Uber.
I placed an order through GrubHub, and about ten minutes later, I received a call from someone claiming to be from Uber. He stated that GrubHub did not have drivers and that my order had been outsourced to Uber. He requested a four-digit verification code that would be sent to my email and phone number. Distracted at the moment, I provided him with the code.
After the call, he asked me for another number from my email, which made me increasingly suspicious. I later realized the unusual nature of the call and promptly changed my password for Uber. Interestingly, the driver who delivered my food did not mention anything about the change in service.
I couldn't shake the thought of how this scammer was aware of my GrubHub order. During the call, I even asked him for details about my order, and he accurately named the restaurant and the driver's name. This made me suspicious that the driver might have been involved in the scam.
Upon further investigation, I discovered that my GrubHub account had likely been compromised. It seems they may have had access to my account for some time, waiting for me to place an order again. I'm left wondering if anyone has any insight into how this could have happened.
I wanted to share this experience to raise awareness about this scam and encourage others to stay vigilant.
