The "Friends" search option on OLD apps

Does anyone else occasionally peruse this section of the app, because I have questions:

Are men I see in this section not going to appear in my Dating feed even if we're similar ages and in the same city? Is that maybe because THEIR filters aren't set for women my age or something? Or is it maybe because they've set up their "looking for" setting to friends, solely? I've seen guys in this part of the app who never appear in my feed and I guess I'm trying to understand why. I'm mostly referring to FB Dating.

And, women also appear in this section (unless setting is changed), and I have an observation: the ladies are 100% better at providing more information about themselves and presenting their personality more clearly. What's interesting is that IF I was looking for just a platonic friend, just to hang out with, I think I'd have better luck with women than men for this reason.

And I'm kind of wondering why. Maybe this is a better way of getting to the point, ruling the person out or in much more efficiently, which I get...but I do wonder if it's maybe because those of you who think a phone conversation is a waste of time maybe live in bigger cities? Where it's more accessible to meet up like, right away?

I ask because I'm a person (in a small city without a ton of immediately close options) who feels like I need to "cast a wide net", so if someone's an hour+ away, I need that phone vibe first before I commit to traveling a bit before meeting. Just kind of wondering why you'd agree to meet before a phone call.
