P-POP is growing fast and showing global potential. What do you think?

I’ve been thinking about this lately, and honestly, parang hindi na lang “emerging” yung P-POP. It really feels like it’s starting to establish itself as a strong and competitive genre within OPM.

I used to be a casual listener lang before, checking out a few songs here and there. But recently, ang daming ganap that made me stop and really pay attention.

For example, BINI did an amazing job at Coachella. That was such a big moment, not just for them but for P-POP and OPM in general. Then you have SB19 set to represent again on global stages like Lollapalooza and Summer Sonic. All of these are major platforms with huge international audiences.

And then just last night, during SB19’s concert, we got a glimpse of what’s coming next. XONARA, the first girl group from 1Z Entertainment, performed their pre-debut stage and ang galing. You can already tell they’re well-trained and performance-ready. Hindi sila mukhang baguhan at all. They even wrote and composed the song themselves. I wasn’t expecting to be that impressed, but they definitely gained a new fan in me.

What I like about it is that these groups aren’t just following trends. They’re building something that still feels Filipino while being globally competitive.

As a Filipino, nakaka-proud makita na our homegrown talent can stand on international stages and actually deliver. Maybe it’s still early to say how far P-POP will go globally, especially since a few groups pa lang are getting those big opportunities, but it definitely feels like we’re heading in that direction.

And if groups like XONARA are any indication, ang daming pwedeng abangan.

Curious to hear your thoughts. Do you think P-POP can break into the global mainstream, or are we still in the early stages?
