“I’m an artist, not a rapper”

Light yap about this but I feel people make out that this term is racially charged when there’s a much simpler explanation behind it which is most people in the UG don’t really rap. If you look at Lucy Bedroque, his delivery is more closer to singing than rapping. I make music and while I would be considered an underground rapper, I don’t feel like I rap in it and I feel the same is 100% true for most other musicians in the UG. The line between rapping and singing is so blurred now and people just don’t feel like they’re rappers so they say they’re artists because it’s an umbrella term, they can be a singer and a rapper under the term artist. Imo it doesn’t mean they don’t respect rap as an art-form it just explains the fluidity in the music styles.
