Hi! We’re considering hosting an au pair for the first time and would love a gut check from people with experience.

We have:

- One child (about to turn 1)

- Consistent schedule: Mon–Fri 8–5 (~45 hours/week)

- Live in a quieter small town, but walking distance to shops/restaurants/bars/library/yoga and steps (4 min walk) from a direct train line into NYC

We’d offer a private room & bathroom, standard program benefits, and a $250/week stipend, plus access to a shared car for local driving.

A few things we’re thinking about:

- Is one toddler + this schedule a good setup for an au pair?

- Does being in a quieter area matter if there’s strong transit access?

- Anything that might be a red flag or harder to match on?

- What kind of au pair would thrive in this setup?

We really want this to be a great experience on both sides, not just childcare. Any advice or gut reactions would be super helpful!
