Hi everyone, I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and feeling really confused about something my doctor said.
Earlier in my pregnancy, my baby was flagged as having possible IUGR (growth restriction), so I was told to increase my protein intake. I’ve been following that advice, and at my recent scan, baby’s weight has improved to around the 28th percentile and is currently about 2 kg.
At my latest appointment, though, my gynecologist told me to *reduce* protein intake now. She mentioned that if the baby’s weight goes above 3 kg by delivery, they may need to do a C-section.
This has me really conflicted. On one hand, I want to do everything possible to support my baby’s growth and health, especially after the earlier IUGR concern. On the other hand, I’m being told to limit protein or no protein at all after my 36th week because of potential delivery complications.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is it normal to adjust diet like this late in pregnancy based on estimated birth weight? I’m struggling to understand whether I should prioritize continuing higher protein for baby’s growth or follow the advice to reduce it because of delivery concerns.
