I (31F) live with my parents, and my brother(37M) is currently visiting us with his family. Things turned volatile today over something as small as moving eggs in the fridge. When I asked a simple question, he became extremely aggressive.
He charged at me and got right in my face in a way that made me certain he was going to hit me. I was terrified and, in a split second of self-defense, I pushed him back to get him out of my personal space. This led to a huge blow-up where he tried to attack me, and my parents actually had to physically restrain him and lock him in a room for a while to protect me.
I told him I would call the cops, and he just dared me to do it, screaming at me. My parents have since let him out of the room, and he is now roaming the house while I am barricaded in my bedroom. I am too scared to go to the kitchen or even move around my own home because I feel he’s waiting to catch me when I’m unaware of my surroundings.
I can't live like this. I am planning to leave first thing tomorrow morning, and I’m taking my cat, Sunny, with me. I’m looking for advice on a few things. I couldn't leave immediately because of my cat Sunny and it is a llittle hard to find hotels accepting of pets.
Legal: Since I pushed him first to get him away from my face, does that ruin my chances of filing a successful complaint or FIR for criminal intimidation? I feel I just want to file a case in writing so that tomorrow if he hurts me bad atleast there will be some proof of it.
