Former friend reached out to me after 15 years, but seems uninterested in talking

A former friend whom I hadn't spoken to in nearly 15 years randomly sent me a friend request on Facebook and then messaged me. I accepted her request, but she's been keeping her messages very short. She asked what was new with me, and I wrote a paragraph, to which she just gave a one-word answer and that was it. Am I supposed to continue the conversation? I don't understand what the purpose was of her reaching out after all these years if she doesn't really seem interested in talking.

For some background info, I never "formally" ended our friendship. I just found out that back then she was spreading lies and saying nasty things about me behind my back, so I just kind of let myself fade out of her life.

A former friend who I haven't spoken to in nearly 15 years randomly sent me a friend request on Facebook. I don't have any negative feelings towards her anymore since so much time has passed, so I accepted the request. Who is supposed to message who first in this case? Should I wait for her to message me first?
