Hi I go by my alias name "Sally" (18F) on here it's my side account because I'm usually not one to complain or feel like I might be overreacting but honestly just like therapy I just want to express my feelings and get other people's opinions. So my two younger siblings who are in elementary were diagnosed with strep throat on the first Monday of the month I then felt also the symptoms like, scratchy dry throat, hard to swallow food and even liquids like water, a fever and dizziness and coughing later on Friday but since I currently live overseas in the Middle East due to my dad working at the U.S. embassy here, they're closed on Saturdays and Sundays. I also go to an online school and everything I had that week was always due on Friday so, I decided to wait. I then emailed them and remembered since I was recently diagnosed with Anemia I could also go in for that for getting my blood drawn again so I scheduled it to be 9:30 on Tuesday (blood draws were usually only done on Tuesdays in the morning) I later decided not to do the blood draw because I was moving and usually my arm would be sore after a blood draw. So skip to Tuesday, I'm about to head out and my mom says that I should bring my sister also use the shuttle (currently in middle school) with me let's call her Ash. Although she didn't really have any symptoms, my sister just does whatever my mom does and since the doctors was a 30 minute shuttle drive she would get tablet time so she wanted to go. I don't really like confrontation so I was like "Sure why not." then we left to the shuttle. We then finally got there and we were actually 10 minutes late due to some heavy traffic and schedule shuttle time changing but I got there and the desk area the lady (Super sweet by the way she helps translate the orthodontist Russian speaking people) and she said "We'll be right with you. I'll let them know that you are here." I then waited 40 minutes and then FINALLY we were let in. (There is one doctor and 3 nurses/assistants plus an admin for the desk job). The usual guy I see (and most of the other patients including my younger siblings from before) then lets me and my sister in and then the conversation goes along the lines of:
Doctor: "I heard you think you have the symptoms of strep throat"
Me: "Yes... And I brought my sister here because my mom thinks she also has it."
Honestly I paused for a second here because he asked SO MANY of the same questions just in a different way as he began to start asking Ash the questions along the lines of "Does your throat hurt?", "Does it feel itchy?", "Does it hurt when you swallow?", "Does it hurt when you drink?", He said some things that I feel like were the same things but I can't really blame him too much when English isn't his first language but after my sister says "No my throat doesn't hurt at all." He does keep asking if it hurts when x or y or z when she says not at all. I then try to say that I have a lot of those symptoms and I guess doesn't really focus on that too much. Of course I don't inturrupt him just when there was silence or while he was checking blood pressure or for swollen lymph nodes I'd say yes. Apparently what really confused him was when I said ever since I was a baby whenever I got sick I would have VERY swollen lymph nodes . For those who don't know what it is it's like bumps formed in your neck. My parents when I was a kid thought it was cancer but got it checked and it wasn't thankfully. ANYWAYS he was like checking for a straight 5 minutes touching her neck and was puzzled and confused saying "I don't feel any swollen lymph nodes" and I was like "Uhm... Well not everyone gets swollen lymph nodes." I have a mom who is a P.A. So me knowing this I think shocked him a bit but then after the check up and everything with JUST HER he was like "Okay... Have you had any close contact with anyone who has been sick or diagnosed with this?" ........... I was like in my head "EXCUSE ME????" First off this mission on the embassy has not that many families and our family is one of the biggest with 6 kids. Note LAST WEEK he diagnosed 2 KIDS in which he knows had the same problem before and were my siblings. I then said "Uhm... Yes my little brother and sister came last week." Then he had a moment and he was like "Ohhhhh right I saw them a week ago." Then he looked confused because first off usually sicknesses after one week won't get people contagious but then I had to explain. "I CURRENTLY have been showing signs of strep throat with x, y, z and etc. But it started on Friday." And then he finally kind of got the message of... Oh these kids might have strep. I was the original patient by the way so I thought he would check me first... plus I thought it would've been obvious to the way of how I sounded because of my throat and voice. He FINALLY got the throat saliva test done and said we had to wait to get the results about 15 minutes. We waited 30 minutes and then he came back saying "You're both positive so I have the medicine for you Sally, I just need to wait for your mom to reply to me for permission to give Ash hers." I also saw him holding the bottles of medicine so he had them ready. Then just left before I could say anything. 60 minutes later he finally came back and had 2 stapled papers with 2 pages of what was I guess precautions and just information about strep throat which was odd and then handed me and my sister the medicine. I looked at the label and it read "amoxicillin" as he was trying to explain the details and how the process worked I just had to read the label like 10 times and looking from the label to him to understand what was happening. By the way this guy has been helping me with medical stuff for 2 YEARS already and has seen my papers a lot and I've come in every month or so and the ONE THING I have that is seen as a allergy on my paper for my patient work was "amoxicillin"... I then tried to interrupt him because I don't want him ditching on me back to the working area so I said "I'm not sure I can take this. This won't work for me." Then he said "No no no... This will work this is what we have for the medicine to help." I paused because I wanted to explain but shortly after he explained he said he had other stuff to do and was busy then just left... I later found out when I got home apparently my mom replied within 10 minutes of him texting my mom for permission so I have no idea why he took 60 minutes away in there. So that trip just the appointment was about 3 hours long then PLUS the shuttle to there and back was an hour. So 4 hours of my day gone and yes given the diagnosis, but was prescribed a medicine I had written in my drug allergies that I have had since I was a kid. That wouldn't really be an option. Plus there are 3 other people there and there were NO OTHER patients. AIO?
