I was shocked when I learned that some adoptees in the U.S. don’t have citizenship bc the US government and adoption agencies didn’t make sure they got it. AND SOME ADOPTEES HAVE BEEN DEPORTED!!!! 😤
Younger adoptees are protected by a 2000 law, but older adoptees are left out. It makes no sense. My siblings have citizenship automatically bc they’re our parents’ bio kids — but adoptees don’t? As if we needed to deal with another abandonment or another rejection.
I’ve seen more about this on social media and in the news. Apparently there’s a bill that would fix this and would make sure all adoptees are covered.
