i was considering studying economics but i saw the politics, philosophy, and economics major and the environment, development, and global economy major in the college of liberal arts and am wondering if they’re similar enough to economics that i can make in one of them instead of regular economics and have similar job prospects or if the name is enough for me to apply for similar jobs

i’m vaguely considering this because i read somewhere on the subreddit that the college of science which econ is in will be charging an additional fee every year on top of normal cost of attendance if you’re in it starting this coming year but i don’t see anything like that on the virginia tech website

it feels to me like engineering is semi-definitively the best value bachelors degree besides maybe nursing since its stabler than other majors pays well and allows you to go into a lot of different fields but at my school i need a 3.5+ gpa to transfer into engineering and i’m not good at math

the way i see it im going to college to get a job and there’s nothing that stands out to me as something i’d be deeply interested in or would look forward to a lot and even though i wouldn’t be naturally good at engineering especially at first there’s a lot of people who’re worse at math than me who somehow figured it out so i assume i can as well if i try hard enough

but if im not interested in engineering itself and dont like math and just interested in what being an engineer offers (good pay, stability, versatility, etc.) and need a 3.5+ gpa to even transfer into the college of engineering at my school should i just start looking at other options?

i also feel like it’s a pretty natural thing for a lot of people to wonder how things work and break things apart and i assume that’s more true among engineers and i’m not in that category and my dad has a degree in engineering and he and my brothers are good at math but ive never felt interested in engineering until very recently and it’s not the end all be all but i really don’t wanna do similar stuff to my family

i do need a 3.0+ gpa to qualify for my merit scholarship each semester but it’s only 1900$ per year which is less than the additional fees my college offers for people in the college of engineering

my parents aren’t letting me take a gap year or go to community college or anywhere that isn’t where i’m currently going

i’m a high school senior

as in you need that specific major or something very similar to do a specific job or it would be very difficult to get that job without that major but you also can do a lot of other stuff with that major if you decide you don’t want to be in that field anymore
all i can think of is engineering and maybe accounting
