How do you break up with alcohol?

I know people share what helped push them to get sober but what are things you look forward to that keep you from drinking? Saying I'll get sober is easy but, I'm having a hard time letting go. It's like running to an ex. How did you overcome that?

I recently got a job in a coastal city in Oregon. Oregon heavily regulates land use and developments. In grad school, we focused a lot of the work in long-range planning and research. There were no courses offered to learn current planning processes and procedures. Although it was exciting, I'm finding it difficult to feel competent at understanding types of applications, timelines, and applying the municipal code to people's questions about development projects, both residential and commercial.

The demographics are majority white, with over 40% being over 55. It's a small place (medium in OR is population of 10,000 or more) for me. I grew up in LA county, metro LA area which is large. I am a first generation, young Latina woman which can make it feel like people undermine me all the time. The culture shock is something I'm getting used to. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to feel competent. I also moved here for the job and I am living alone. Any tips for getting through this is deeply appreciated!
