Ongoing Damage Despite Trims and Bond Repair Products
I’ve been experiencing significant hair damage and structural changes to my hair strands. Individual hairs often look bent or zigzag-shaped instead of smooth and straight. My hair feels very dry and fragile.
I also experience frequent breakage, not only at the ends but sometimes around 10 cm above the ends. The strands split and snap in multiple places, and when I touch or brush my hair, many small broken hairs come out. It’s not just a single strand breaking occasionally — multiple hairs tend to snap at once.
I’ve trimmed my ends several times, but the problem keeps returning. I don’t use heat styling very often. For example, I straightened and curled my hair yesterday, but before that I hadn’t used heat in quite a while. I also always use heat protectant/hair protection products.
Currently I’m using the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate line (shampoo, conditioner, hair mask/cream, and leave-in balm).
I’ve had nanoplasty treatments three times in the past, and since then my hair has become increasingly dry and fragile.
Another thing I noticed is that when I was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, my hair looked and felt much healthier. The ends felt very hydrated and I didn’t experience the same level of breakage or zigzag-shaped strands. However, once I returned to Santiago, the problem came back again.
I’ve also noticed that the ends of my hair don’t fall in a smooth, aligned way anymore. The hair shaft itself may look relatively straight, but the ends separate and point in different directions, almost frayed or uneven, instead of staying together smoothly.
What do you think could be causing this, and what would you recommend I do to improve my hair health and reduce the breakage?
