Big Brother Big Sister?

Anybody here connected with Big Brother Big Sister of South Central PA? Was thinking about signing up to take on a little, wondering if anyone has experience in this specific area with the organization. Are there any other programs similar looking for volunteer mentors? Thanks!

An ode to the humble nightgown

I started with 2 and I now have 5 total nightgowns. They are the GOAT. They put 0 pressure on my abdomen, are soft and light, provide coverage when I need it, freedom when I don’t. They come in cute fun colors and modern designs, not frilly and lacy like old lady nightgowns.

And…. They have POCKETS

19/10 highly recommend a good stock of cheap nightgowns before your surgery

Specifically I got the $10 Joyspun short nightgowns from WalMart. Worth every blessed penny.

Anything else deserve to be GOATed for hysterectomy recovery?

I am about 20 hours post op and feeling surprisingly well! I posted earlier this week about how terrified I was leading up to surgery. Thankfully with all of the support from the ✨ hyster-sisters ✨ and 🏳️‍⚧️ non binary lovelies here, my wonderful friends, coworkers, and family, I felt an odd sense of calmness the morning of the surgery. I didn’t even need the anti anxiety meds, I wish they would have offered it to my poor husband 😂 . The nurses, anesthesia team, and surgeon were all fabulous, we were even watching a family of baby ducks and talking about baby kangaroos shortly before the surgery.

So far the most significant discomfort feels similar to gas and bloating. I was also concerned overnight because I was only just trickling pee every hour or so and my bladder felt very full, but it’s gotten progressively better since. I’ve been up and walking every couple of hours to try and get my GI system moving, but taking it very very easy.

If you’re nervous about the surgery, lean on the people in your life, and if you don’t have anyone that understands, lean on us in this sub! We got you babe!

Thank you thank you thank you r/hysterectomy, you’ve all been wonderful beyond words 🫶🏼

My surgery is tomorrow (laparoscopic robotic hysterectomy and tubes out, leaving ovaries). I am 36F, no kids nor any plans to have any.

In the fall I started having severe pain and spotting, they found a mass at the ER and referred me to an OBGYN. He removed the mass in December and it was sent for study. It is NOT cancerous, but they have labeled it a STUMP (soft tissue tumor of unknown malignant potential). They sent me to a gynecological oncologist and she recommended a hysterectomy to remove all cancer risk.

I am shitting bricks. I am just so scared something will go wrong either with the anesthesia or the surgery itself. I’m looking forward to never having cramps or a period again, good riddance, but surgery seems so scary and daunting to me.

Just looking for a little support from this lovely community ❤️
