Alright, I feel like this is probably a hopeless cause and probably not that popular, but I'm looking for a MMC who is a complete asshole like Tanner Courtenay from {The Catcher by Kate Raven}.
The Catcher is my "lightning in a bottle" book. I understand you either hate it or you've read it so many times you practically have it memorized. I fall in the second camp. I can't explain why I love Tanner so much, he is ABSOLUTELY a total asshole, no doubt about it. I can't put my finger on what it is about him that I love so much, but part of it is the way he just does not give a single fuck and steamrolls EVERYONE, but the tone is not at all serious, so you can just appreciate it in all its glory. There's no real redemption ARC, the grovel is hilariously inadequate, after getting her fired from her job, casually kidnapping her and forcing her to live with him, he buys her "apology tortoises" and FINALLY saying the words "I'm sorry" is his "grand guesture" 😂😂😂 I like that he basically remains and asshole and that Emrys just sorta had to accept it, but also secretly kinda loves it.
So all that being said, I've read all Kate Raven's books and Kate Rivenhall books and any pen name by her I can get my hands on (Aside from her cheating books by Katie Landry). Some of her other books I enjoyed a lot, like "Her Drag Barbarian" and "Brutal Serpent", but the rest of them were kind of a miss for me unfortunately. I also can't find *one* other MMC like Tanner and I get it, it's a really hard role to fill because he walks a very fine line between being a push-over whose assholishness is just an act or a selfish asshole who takes himself too seriously and then it feels too "real", part of Tanner's charm (to me) is that he almost like a caricature, his behavior is over-the-top while being in contemporary sports setting instead mafia or global conglomerate. He's not pulling out knives and all this fancy BDSM equipment, there's nothing performative about him, he's blunt and direct. It's a long shot, but I'm hoping someone can recommend someone similar. I feel like the closest I've found is Caleb from {If I can't have you by Deathsdoll} and Matteo from the Morelli Series by Sam Mariano, though I think Sam sometimes calls these wild audibles that don't match the rest of the character's psychological profile and that drives me a little crazy. At least for the most part, Caleb and Tanner have consistent asshole behavior! 🤪 I've read all the "Pucking Wrong Everything" and the S Massery Hockey gods series and {Dirty Hit by Heather Ashley} by doesn't necessarily have to be a sports romance. No cheating, HEA/HFN please!
