Hi all - brand new to this sub but life has this crazy way of doing things per usual.

For context - me and my girlfriend have been together for just about 2 years.

Right now I work a very safe job in retail sales (actually became a higher up manager within 2 years), but I am coming to terms with actually not liking my job anymore. Hours suck, pay is subpar - $26 an hour, and the general public is god awful. It’s done more harm than good to our relationship because i’m simply never home.

I haven’t been actively looking for a job maybe a few applications here and there but finally an opportunity decided to show itself. Without going into too much detail it pays $70k base salary which is a large upgrade from what I am currently earning. Plus the normal 9-5 schedule which is something i’ve been searching for because of how locked off my current job has seen to make my life. I constantly miss plans with my family AND my girlfriend because I’m never home and most nights i work until 9pm.

Now to the kicker - this new opportunity requires a very good training program but I have to move across the country for 9 months… Only thing holding me back is my girlfriend. I love her beyond words and the idea of leaving her behind for a while just destroys me! I know in the long run this will flip both our lives upside down because i’ll finally be free to do things on the weekends and won’t be in the office until 9pm. But our entire first year of dating was long distance so it’s a little scary to have to do it again.

Has anyone ever done something like this before? I’m just worried this will do more damage to our relationship that I care about so much. Would love some advice or even some reassurance that i’m doing the right thing.
