Customs duty on a GPU and a motherboard

My friend will be travelling from the USA to India soon and carrying a GPU + motherboard for me, and I wanted to understand the customs situation a bit better.

Details:

  • GPU retail/MSRP in US: $349
  • Official Indian seller price: ~₹44k (scalpers go much higher)
  • Motherboard bought for $179 (retail ~$200), sells for ~₹23k in India

Questions:

  1. Can he carry both the GPU and motherboard in cabin baggage?
  2. Is it okay if they are in their original boxes?
  3. If customs stops him, what value do they usually consider?
    • US purchase price?
    • Indian market value?
    • Scalper pricing?
  4. Since people mention the ₹75k duty-free allowance, if customs calculates value above that, is duty charged:
    • on the entire amount?
    • or only on the amount exceeding ₹75k?
  5. Does the fact that the GPU is technically used/gifted help?

Would appreciate replies from people who have actually carried PC parts through Indian customs recently.
