My boyfriend (21M) and I (22F) have been together for 5 years. We’re each other’s first love and first everything. Recently, he told me that he’s not sure anymore if he wants to stay in a long-term relationship with his first love. He feels like he might be missing out on other romantic experiences and also wants to experience life on his own.
I can understand where those feelings come from since we got together so young, but it’s still incredibly painful to hear. What makes it harder is that he’s very unsure bc he still cares deeply about our relationship and doesn’t know what to do.
We decided to stay together over the summer and see where things go, but he’s leaving for Erasmus in a few months, which makes everything feel uncertain and stressful for me.
The hardest part is that I feel like I’m waiting for him to make a decision about us, and it’s starting to hurt more and more.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did it turn out? And what would you do in my place?
