what’s a marketing strategy you tried that surprisingly performed way better than expected?

i’ve noticed some of the best-performing stuff ends up being the low effort things you almost don’t try because they sound too simple.

for us, it was sending quick personalized videos instead of the usual cold email wall of text. literally just 1-2 mins pointing out something obvious on their site. nothing polished. replies went up way more than expected.

another weird one was running ads that looked kinda bad on purpose. plain screenshots, messy layouts, basic text. somehow they outperformed the clean expensive creatives.

also saw a local business get more leads from adding a super basic tool on their website than from grinding social media for months.

starting to feel like people trust stuff that feels more real now instead of overproduced marketing. what’s something you tried that sounded dumb at first but ended up working insanely well?
