I have nothing against unions, but please stop acting like non-union stores are some poor lost souls.
Please read the whole post or at least the first edit.
For the past year, at least once a month, customers and union baristas who come to our store to buy stuff, use their markouts, and whatnot have asked if we’re a union. I have no problem with this. But every single time I say no, they act like we’re suffering and drowning, to the point where it’s really patronising.
The only reason I think they ask is because someone spread a rumour that our store is for some reason? We have the highest traffic in the district, so maybe that’s why? But there’s literally only one store that is unionised in our district afaik.
That’s it and I’m quitting anyways, but it’s one of those things that’s always kinda annoyed me and found kinda weird. And again, I want to reiterate, I have nothing against unions or union workers, I just find this behaviour kinda annoying since it’s been happening quite a bit recently.
Edit: Please read the damn post. I’m not defending Starbucks. I’m not against unions nor against the idea of unionising. I’m against the damn patronising behaviour we get whenever I say we aren’t a Union.
Edit2: Turning off reply notifications for now. This got more controversial and draining than I anticipated. I didn’t account for the post being misconstrued the way it was, which is on me because Reddit be Reddit I guess. Anyways, the main takeaway should be: regardless of your stance on unions, PLEASE BE NICE AND DON’T BE PATRONISING.
