Hey everyone, just wanted to post this here for some opinions while I wait for the endo office to open on Monday so I can schedule an appointment.

About 3 days ago I started experiencing pain/sensitivity in #14. I had an inlay done on this tooth about 15 years ago. it only hurts when liquids touch it & doesn’t hurt when biting down on room temp food/while at rest.

The dentist poked around in there, which didn’t hurt & did a cold test, which produced no symptoms. He said there may be some decay around the inlay but my root looks healthy on the xray, so he referred me to an endo for a root canal.

Does this seem like the standard treatment for such symptoms? I’m sure I’ll get a better understanding of things after a consult with an endo, but it’s going to drive me crazy thinking about what it could possibly be all weekend.

  1. Does it look like my root is infected on the xray? Is it possible that an infected root may not show on an xray?

  2. Can you see decay around inlay on the xray?

  3. Dentist said if tooth can’t be saved I’m probably looking at oral surgery because the root is very long, is this typical?

I do have video of the tooth I could also send you to take a look at if that helps. Thank you in advance.
