I purchased my first PS3 for $40 !
There is a pawnshop in my town my partner & I frequently visit, they have amazing deals on used DualSense Controllers I like to pick up to shell swap. My last visit I noticed a fat body PS3 sitting behind the counter. I’ve owned every single PlayStation in their respective generations except for the PS3. The 7th gen belonged to Xbox in my home and rightfully so but the PS3 remained elusive to me. We had to get out of the house today to kill some boredom and something told me to hit up the pawnshop. When I arrived one of the clerks asked what I needed help with and I told I them I was interested in the PS3 behind the counter. Their eyes lit up bright lol they told me: “I will sell it to you for dirt cheap it’s been here forever and needs to get out my shop”.
I asked them what dirt cheap was to them and they said it was being sold for $90 but I can take it home for $40 to get it out of there. I did not hesitate as this is my first PS3 ! I simply asked if everything worked and they said it works just fine and I can bring it right back if it doesn’t. It’s not the model that is backwards compatible with PS2 games but that’s ok because I plan on collecting some PS3 ports of some of my favorites from the 7th gen. The previous owner left GTA 3, GTA Vice City, 3rd Strike and DarkStalkers downloaded which I’m extremely stoked and grateful for, I also have some of my Vita downloads currently installing as well which is a huge plus since some of them aren’t currently available on PSN.
It’s really hard to believe that this thing is just about 20 years old, I would be sh*ting bricks if the present time version of myself told the past me I would be adopting this premium piece of hardware for a humble sum of $40 instead of that hefty $599 price tag lol.
