Part of my tooth fell off yesterday, how bad is it?
It’s the second to last tooth. I didn’t brush my teeth regularly growing up due to depression, I barely brushed for most of my life basically. I haven’t been to the dentist since I was about 12 years old (I’m 25 now). I smoked (mostly vaping) from about 17 to 24, I don’t smoke anymore though. I drink occasionally, only a couple times a year though. I just now started caring about my teeth and regularly brushing and flossing in the last year. I’m surprised my teeth aren’t a lot worse, but yesterday I was scraping my tooth lightly with my finger nail to see if I missed any plaque while brushing and a piece fell off. I wasn’t sure what it was so I tried to feel to see if there was a hole there, and two more pieces fell off. Now there’s a hole in my tooth, I assume it’s a cavity right? It doesn’t hurt at all right now. Hopefully I can keep it at bay so it doesn’t progress super fast, I need time to save up money for the dentist because I got laid off a couple months ago. If I brush and floss everyday how long do you think it will be before this gets to where my whole tooth is like rotted off? I’m scared lol. This is the result of like 24 years of barely brushing, so I hope that means I have decent enough genetics that I can survive a while without it completely falling out.
