This has been an ongoing problem for years now. I have the whole depression/anxiety/insomnia threesome for years now taking medications for that with that I know comes some fatigue. It's even documented on my medical charts with fatigue going back to at least 2019. Doesn't matter how much I sleep or how much caffeine I drink I'm always exhausted. I've also known that I have low vitamin D levels before on my blood test and one year it was low enough to get a prescription for it. Then a month or two ago I ran out of my depression medicine for two days. The exhaustion I felt then was very different to what I normally feel daily and I thought it was just my body starting to notice I didn't have the medications I normally would. I thought this until I got my yearly blood test back for this year and actually looked at my patient portal. Vitamin D 26.4 ng/mL and B12 188 pg/mL both flagged as low in the system and I look at my history of blood test and find the last three levels show on vitamin D were all flagged as low. It only showed three years so I couldn't go back any further online, so I started to look at visit summaries and clinical notes. Low vitamin D, low vitamin D, low vitamin D going back for years. A clinical note from last year documenting in the physician's own words 'vitamin d deficiency.'

So now looking back and comparing times where I know I was having a depressive episode and how and normally feel, and knowing I have a deficiency documented as recently as last year. The last time I can remember not feeling fatigue was when I was on the vitamin D prescription. I could be wrong but it feels like the fatigue that I have for years attributed to my depression might have been all along caused by a vitamin deficiency. And the only thing my doctor and NP has said to me over the years was 'oh get some over the counter vitamins.' So now I'm very concerned because in the last three years I have brought up the time I had a prescription strength vitamin D and requested it, it's been brushed of. The most recent time I wasn't even given a medical reason just 'oh you're NP wants you to do over the counter.'

Now I'm getting really concerned. Last year I had a dexa scan because some xrays showed signs of osteopenia likely due to my depo. The same NP that said to take otc ordered said dexa scan where it confirmed osteopenia and the DO wrote in the report ensure adequate vitamin D levels because the vitamin levels can contribute to bone health.

So in total I have a documented vitamin D deficiency going back years, documented fatigue going back years, documented osteopenia, a couple of years of low platelets, and this year I'm low on vitamin b12. I'm already starting to make notes of all this and plan to call tomorrow to get a second opinion.

So I guess I'm asking for someone to tell me I'm not being crazy and unreasonable and give me some advice on how I can word this to a doctor to get it through to them and are there any other sort of blood test I should ask about? I'm not looking for a medical diagnosis just advice and if anyone else has experience with this or something similar. All I asked was to take prescription strength vitamin D and b12 for a short time to get my levels up so I'm not feeling miserable and then continue with OTC vitamins once I'm in a good range. I have missed out on things for years due to the fatigue and when I think of this whole ...situation I just want to cry.
