AITA for telling a lady she cut in line?
To paint a picture, I work in retail and I'm usually the only person on register, our queue is set up in an 'L' shape with two entrances very close by, typically if someone is standing in the area I consider them in line.
Today, as I was checking out a customer, two teenagers came up and got into the queue, they were talking about one of our items located in the queue as another woman walked up, lets call her line cutter. Line cutter looked at the teenagers, and then walked to the counter and started putting her stuff down. Mind you I was not done checking out the first customer.
The teenagers look up and they both looked confused that the Line cutter was there. After I finish up with the first customer I turn to the teenagers and ask if they had been in line, after they confirmed they were, I turned to Line cutter and, in my opinion, politely asked her to let them go first.
Line cutter went "oh were they I didn't realize, I'm sorry" and moved aside. I checked the teenagers out and they were on their way.
I somewhat nievely believed that maybe she really didn't realize they were in line, but then Line cutter came up and I started checking her stuff out, and she hit me with "Just so you know they weren't in line, and that was rude" me and her went back and forth for a second, until I finished checking her out and she walked out the door muttering how "some people need to learn how to do their jobs"
At first I was solid in my opinion of my actions, but I guess I overthink everything. This is my first customer facing job and the first time I've had a conflict with a customer, and in general I don't really know how to interact with people that well. And now I'm wondering if maybe I should have just let it go even though I knew it wasn't right. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Tldr; I told a lady she cut in front of someone in line and served them first and she was mad with me. AITAH?
