Estranged sis is getting irs letters
I(49f) have moved into my mom's about 3 years ago. My husband and I have a home, but we came to take care of mom. My sister (52f) we'll call her Mindy, has been in trouble with the irs most of her adult life. They seized the last home she owned. After the seizure she moved in with mom for about a year. Mindy and mom didn't gel well together, and after 3 months of not paying mom rent, they got into an argument, and she moved out. But she never put in a change of address. Then I moved in several months later.
The arguments got bad, and she has blocked us on everything. So for years there's been no contact. So when we occasionally get mail addressed to her, we put "return to sender"
Which I've felt fine about. But today we received 6.... yes 6... certified letters from the irs.
My question: Is it appropriate to "return to sender," or should I make the 30 minute drive to her closest kid's home and hope they give them to her?(I might be able to find my neice on FB, but the last time I tried.... blocked)
I see pros and cons of both. If I return them it might cause bigger problems for her, if I don't the irs believes she's here. And of course a lot more, but those are the 2 that stress me out.
