Extreme Thermal Mod for S25 (Snapdragon 8 Elite): From 25 FPS to 172 FPS (Peltier + Copper + Thermal Paste)

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my latest cooling project for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (Snapdragon 8 Elite). We all know this chip is a beast, but the glass back is a nightmare for sustained performance. Here is how I broke the thermal barrier:

The Hardware Setup:

  1. Passive VC Heat Sink:
  • Model:VC plate-E pro.
  • The Mod: I used a scalpel to remove the original adhesive film from the tube and replaced it with high-quality thermal paste for direct contact. This significantly improved heat transfer from the chassis.

  1. Active Cooling Grip (Custom Peltier):
  • Base:Cooling Fan Gamepad.
  • Critical Modification: I removed the stock black plastic plate (held by double-sided tape) and replaced it with a 1.5mm 100% Copper Plate cut to size.
  • I applied premium thermal paste between the Peltier cell and the new copper plate for maximum conductivity.

Benchmark Results (3DMark Wild Life Stress Test):

I ran multiple tests comparing the stock device against my final mod. The stability gain is massive:

Setup Min FPS Max FPS Avg Temp Stability Improvement
Stock (Out of box) 25 FPS 113 FPS 42°C (Thermal Throttling)
Final Mod (Copper/Paste) 45 FPS 150 FPS 42°C +80%
Active Mod (Peltier ON 75 FPS 172 FPS 37°C +200%

Visual Evidence: Sustained Performance (Results of the 3rd Test Pass)

The following images are the results of the third consecutive stress test pass (meaning, captured after pre-heating the phone with two identical previous runs to simulate sustained gaming):

1. Stock Test (No Cooler):

2. Passive Cooler Test (Vapor Chamber):

3. Passive + Active Cooler Test (Peltier):

Key Findings:

  • Temperature Drop: I managed to bring the sustained temperature down from a constant 42°C (throttling point) to a steady 37°C under extreme load. That’s a 5°C drop that translates into much higher sustained clocks.
  • The Glass Bottleneck: Even with the back freezing, the front glass near the selfie camera still traps some heat, but the rear mod pulls enough thermal energy to keep the FPS stable.
  • Gaming Experience: In heavy emulation (Switch/PC), I went from unplayable stutters at 25 FPS to a rock-solid experience above 60 FPS.
  • Pro Tip: I highly recommend enabling "Pause USB Power Delivery" in Game Booster settings to bypass the battery and reduce internal heat while playing.

Happy to answer any questions about the copper cutting process or the thermal paste application!
