Simply, it's been way too long. We've only ever followed the clans in the story, and all the other introduced groups aren't very interesting in my opinion.

Plus, we have to do away with Starclan atp, it's basically just the writer saying "Well golly f**king gee, I don't know how to write a good plot."

Not only that, I feel an amazing case could be made for the clans being good villains. If, lets say Scourge or Darktail were the main charecters, the clans would be villains in their story. A Scourge or Darktail centered story would no doubt be way more interesting.
