I have recently given some serious consideration to applying to the UK courts to have my birth father‘s name added to my original birth certificate. This would cost a fairly significant amount amount of money and will involve one of my half siblings taking a government approved DNA test only it still be subject to the whims of the judiciary.

It’s not something I’ve considered as I have a good relationship with my adoptive parents (albeit flawed) but I have toyed with the idea of what it would take to put a legal challenge to my adopted status in the first place as an adult.

This Substack post by the brilliant Dr Barbara Sumner has absolutely blown my mind about a UK court case that I’ve never heard of that really cements adopted people as being irrelevant in the eyes of the law. It has really made me want to make some noise about this issue:
