Vietnam Itinerary Sanity Check (HCMC → Ninh Binh → Hanoi)
Hey everyone,
Travelling to Vietnam with one friend starting 16th April and wanted a sanity check on our itinerary. We’re more into exploring, food, culture, and chill experiences than hardcore partying—but we do want one proper fun/drunk night.
Would really appreciate feedback on:
- Places we should skip
- Things we should add
- Better sunset spots
- Any logistical mistakes
- And generally if this feels too rushed or just right
🏙️ Days 1–4: Ho Chi Minh City
Day 1 (Chill city exploration)
- Tan Dinh Church
- Notre Dame Cathedral
- Reunification Palace
- Central Post Office
- Book Street
- Opera House (outside)
- Ben Thanh Market (dinner)
- Nguyen Hue Walking Street
Day 2 (Heavy + light balance)
- War Remnants Museum
- Tao Dan Park
- Café downtime
- Bui Vien (just to see, not really party)
Day 3 (Packed day)
- Cu Chi Tunnels (early)
- Mekong Delta (Ben Tre / My Tho) same day
- Back to HCMC by night
Day 4 (Slow day)
- Fine Arts Museum
- District 3 walk
- Long lunch + café
- Sunset drink (rooftop or river)
👉 Qs:
- Best rooftop sunset bar in HCMC that isn’t too “party club” vibe?
- Is Bui Vien worth even a short visit?
- Better sunset spots less crowded ones.
🌿 Days 5–7: Ninh Binh (Tam Coc base)
Day 5
- Travel + check-in
- Bich Dong Pagoda
- Cycling around Tam Coc
- Riverside dinner
Day 6
- Trang An boat ride
- Hoa Lu
- Mua Cave (sunset climb?)
- Chill evening
Day 7
- Free / rest / buffer day
👉 Qs:
- Is Trang An + Mua Cave same day doable comfortably?
- Better sunrise vs sunset: Mua Cave or elsewhere?
- Should we consider Hang Mua at sunrise instead?
🏛️ Days 8–11: Hanoi
Day 8
- Travel from Ninh Binh
- Hoa Lo Prison
- Women’s Museum
- St. Joseph’s Cathedral
- Dinner in Old Quarter
Day 9
- Ngoc Son Temple + Hoan Kiem Lake
- Temple of Literature
- Train Street (via café)
- Local railway walk
Day 10
- West Lake
- Tran Quoc Pagoda
- Chill final day
Day 11
- Fly out (11 AM)
👉 Qs:
- Is Train Street still worth it or too touristy now?
- Best chill cafés with a view in Hanoi?
- Where should we do our one proper drinking night — HCMC or Hanoi?
General Questions
- Any must-try food spots (not super fancy)?
- Any tourist traps to avoid?
- Are we missing anything that’s a “wow, don’t skip this”?
- Any scams or gotchas we should be aware of?
Overall goal:
👉 Not rushing
👉 Good mix of culture + nature + food
👉 One fun night out, rest mostly chill
Appreciate any advice 🙏
