Mystery “rack” on wall

I’ve been living in this apartment for the past 6 months and I can’t for the life of me figure out what this is for.

I thought it was supposed to be something for me to stick screws in to hang portraits, but this material in the middle is extremely hard (photos attached)

Then I thought it might be some sort of rail, but the material doesn’t peel off and the sides don’t come off for me to try and take it out either.

I’ve googled and googled and can’t find anything, I’ve asked dozens of Japanese people and everyone is clueless.

My apartment is pretty small and I just want to use space effectively to make it more cozy so I’ve been hoping to get some use out of it this thing.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated🙇🏼‍♂️

▲ 19 r/omarchy

I haven’t updated my system since December and decided to go for an Omarchy update today.

Before I realized what happened my screen went all black part through the update and now I’m stuck on this black screen with a blinking cursor.

My keyboard is completely unresponsive so I’m not sure what to do other than turn it off. It’s been like this for maybe 10 minutes already so I’m not sure if it’s trying to update in the background.

Any advice would be appreciated 🙇🏼‍♂️

Update: I force shut down the PC and after logging in I just boot into a black screen. My snapshots also all boot into a black screen.

Update 2: Managed to fix it. I was getting an OOM error from docker and Hyprland. I increased my swap partition and managed to boot into hyprland after manually updating all my packages and from there I was able to do Omarchy-update-perform to force the rest of the updates to go through. Once I got in, it was just a matter of fixing configs.

Snapper is still broken though
