Is this what shoe trees do to boots?

Hi all. Was hoping to get your input on my recent order as I am new to boots and Grant Stone.

I purchased B grades boots and appropriately-sized shoe trees. The shoe trees came inside the boots instead of their own separate box.

The boots came with significant creasing on the sides. I’m pretty sure it’s from the shoe trees as the front looks fine on both boots.

Are shoe trees supposed to cause this type of creasing on the sides? I thought they were used to prevent it.

Is this amount of creasing typical with shoe trees or did I order the wrong size?

Do I have any recourse or would normal wear have created creases anyway so maybe this is fine?
