I know this "Ambipom quits her contest career to be a professional ping pong player" storyline is considered one of the lowest parts of DP so I had an idea to fix it

Dawn is practicing a new move combo where Ambipom simultaneously does Focus Punch with one tail and Double Hit with the other tail. The two collide with each other injuring Ambipom. Nurse Joy tells Dawn Ambipom need to rest for a while and not compete in any more contests. Johanna is happy to take Ambipom in while she recovers since Glameow's been lonely without Dawn. She also assures Dawn to not take this so hard, as achieving success involves taking risks and not all of those risks will pan out.

When the Grand Festival comes, Ambipom is healed and ready to compete. Dawn objects since the high competition of the Grand Festival could risk re-injuring Ambipom who hasn't had time to practice since she was recovering. Ash suggest Ambipom cheer from the sidelines, an idea Dawn loves and promises to continue their training when the Grand Festival is over. This lifts Ambipom's spirit.

In the Junior Cup arc, Dawn uses Ambipom to beat Ramone's Stoutland rather than Piplup showing Dawn kept her promise.
