I’m making a Chinese Character and would just like some advice with her name!
Hello! I’m currently making a character from a fictional region inspired by China and Chinese culture and I wanted to ask if her name is an appropriate name to give. Usually I would adhere to more traditional names I’ve researched, but I wanted to give her name a lot of symbolic weight and I couldn’t decide between Diéxī (蝶熙), Róngdié (荣蝶), Húdié (蝴蝶), and Yuán (缘) for her given name (I am aware that you usually would say the full name (surname + given name), but I have not decided on her surname yet). Thus I decided to combine Yuán (缘) and Dié (蝶) to create Yuándié (缘蝶) which to my understanding, means something along the lines of “Butterfly of Fate,” Destined Butterfly,” “Karmic Butterfly,” etc. I understand it is not a conventional given name, but I wanted to make sure it was appropriate and still respectful/adhering to the culture.
Additionally, I plan for her to go by the nickname/alias, Chéngrén (成仁) on certain occasions, as I believe it is fitting considering her character and story. Would this be appropriate?
Thank you so much in advance. I just want to make sure I’m being respectful and representing the culture properly. If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know!
