Hey guys,

our HP Z6100 is definitely not a new printer, but is still doing its job great for the purpose it is used. It is mainly used for providing a dirt cheap printing service (semi in-house) for academic posters and large formate info material that is oftentimes discarded after its intended use. Thus, everything was optimized on this setup for printing out posters very cheap (and with low expectation bars). Totally fine use case for the old lady Z6100.

Slowly, most of the after-market vendors for dirt cheap replacement parts dwindled (which we compensated with far east alternatives) and lately refilled/refurbished HP 91 ink cartridges are also getting more expensive than they used to be. In the past, we got hands on refurbished cartridges that were cheap enough that DIY refilling and chip modding was not worth it.

That brings me to the crossroad: Are there people out there experience with refilling HP91 cartridges and replacing the chips on cartridges, or perhaps with auto-resetting decoder? How expensive/cheap is it in the long run? Any experience with cartridge modding for other large format printers?
