Can elf ancestry resurge like tieflings or aasimar

could two human parents produce a half elf, if say the mother had a full elf recent ancestor

i was thinking of a family that was mostly human, but one of the people in it , the first one ended up with a large amount of elf ancestry, and thinks like an elf and sticks out within their own family.

I dont really want to fight rule books if it doesnt happen it doesnt happen to me
