SIB Diablo 4 (+DLCs)?

I remember hearing on launch D4 had some good bones, but the overall package was a bit lackluster. How is it these days? I've got a craving for a good ARPG and Diablo is the original, after all.

Specifically, I'm looking for a loot grind that can plausibly be done by one person playing for fun. I know that's the endgame and I'm looking forward to it, but I don't necessarily want to be at an auction house or running for weeks for a single worthwhile drop. Part of the reason I'm asking is because I don't quite have the time to commit to a Path of Exile league these days, as much as I enjoy that game.

Also how's the monetization? I don't mind if the DLCs are pretty much mandatory to round out the package, but are there microtransactions, and what for? Are there character slot/save dtat limits?

Finally, how's the actual gameplay? Is there good class and build variety or is there just one meta everyone will tell you to get on?

Title. I love the idea and concept, but I'm in a corner of the world where I have questionable ping times to most of the populated servers, and even if I do have a playable connection, the skill wall seems insurmountable. Yeah, I know, skill issue by literal definition. But are there any solo-playable battle royale games/modes out there? To be clear, I'm leaning away from practice/bot modes in the multiplayer-focused games (unless they're really good), I'm wondering if there's anything tuned for a solo experience out there.
