SUSS or NUS SW

Hello, to my surprise I actually got offered nus chs as well (preferred major SW). I'm kind of stuck in the middle between the two choices and can't decide which uni to accept. Would appreciate any advice/ insights, or if any seniors choose SUSS over NUS or vice versa could you share your thought process?

Originally I was leaning more towards suss because I like that it focuses more on practicals and offers specialisation whereas nus focus more on theory and has no specialisations. There is also an advocacy group I'm interested in suss but I haven't really researched on nus yet. I also liked that suss is closer to my house and there's no dorms so 'equal' chances of meeting new friends as compared to nus as I am not intending on staying in dorms. And I have the mindset that it's easier to reach for the top in suss compared to nus where all the high scorers go to so I'll have a better chance of standing out in suss and getting opportunities limited to the better achievers.

I know it seems obvious suss would be the choice for me and I did put in a lot of effort into the interviews to get into suss but for nus I only applied to try my luck. However I can't easily give up nus's offer because of obvious reasons and while I don't really see the need to 'waste' the first year on nus's interdisciplinary mods, I am scared that I might make the wrong choice and that nus's approach might be my saving grace in the case where I change my mind about sw. I am also afraid because nus is more rah rah compared to suss environment which I dont particularly like because I'm an introvert but I would also like my uni life to be a little exciting + while I know suss sw's employment rate is relatively high, I will have limited opportunities because suss is not one of the 'big 3'.

So I'm really in a dilemma right now, my heart is going towards suss but my brain is screaming at me about what-ifs because this is a major decision that would determine my future basically

Hello! I received my ft sw offer a few days ago but unfortunately I don't think I can attend the exploration fair on 9 May, so I hope I can have some of my questions answered here!

(If anyone's wondering, I had my 3 stage interview on 4th April and got my offer on 24th, 59.31rp)

  • how does the whole process of choosing mods/courses go and when do we choose them?

  • are there restrictions in choosing the courses or is it entirely up to us

  • do we start off with the compulsory and core courses or are they spread out throughout the 4 years?

  • generally, how frequently do you have to attend seminars on campus (as I am aware lectures are online)

  • are there a lot of group projects? How are they like? Any peer evaluation (?) in the case where there are slackers?

  • how are exams like generally

  • any courses/professors in particular you would like to point out? (Can be a good or bad experience) Any courses that are very popular/ not so popular?

  • is the workload manageable? What are some advice you would give to new students?

  • is a laptop necessary for this programme or does an iPad work?

  • other than online lectures, are the other resources mostly online as well?

Regarding free electives:

  • I'm interested in taking a minor in psy but I'm not sure how it goes? What are the elective courses I have to take up in order to have a minor in psy
  • how is a minor in psy like? What do y'all learn + do you recommend it?
  • are there requirements in taking up a minor? And what are the benefits of having a minor

Also on student life:

  • are there a lot of events/ activities? What are some of them?
  • how is orientation like?
  • where do you usually make new friends? (During orientation, within the programme/ interest groups etc?)
  • when do we join advocacy groups/ interest groups and is there a limit to the number we can join?
  • I am interested in this advocacy group called Hearts of SUSS, can I know what exactly do you do during meetings(?? Can't exactly call it CCA sessions) and how often do you meet up + what are some exco roles and how is the workload like + when are new EXCOs chosen
  • are there leadership opportunities outside of interest and advocacy groups? Is it recommended to have a leadership position?
  • any advice in general to new students

Thanks for taking the time to read through, I'm quite clueless to how uni works because I'm the first in my family to go to uni so I appreciate any responses! Feel free to share about your suss experience too so that other new students can read through as well (doesn't have to be related to my questions)
