Need advice on a recovered stolen vehicle insurance claim (Maryland / Tesla Insurance)

My vehicle was stolen and later recovered in another state. Tesla Insurance initially on April 6th mentioned total loss pending evaluation, but on April 10th after NYPD found it then later stated there was “no apparent damage,” and now says they cannot properly inspect the vehicle because the key was stolen with the car and I do not have a spare.

The vehicle is currently still at Copart under Tesla Insurance handling, not in my possession. The adjuster is now telling me I must arrange and pay upfront for rekeying/remotes before they can continue inspection, and then seek reimbursement later under the policy.

My issue is: how am I reasonably supposed to coordinate rekeying/testing for a vehicle I cannot access or operate, in another state, while it is still under their handling?

I’m cooperating with the claim, but I’m trying to understand:
- What are my actual obligations here?
- Is the insurer’s position reasonable?
- Should they be handling the rekey/testing process while the vehicle remains at Copart?
- Is this something worth consulting an attorney over, or still within normal claims handling territory?

Trying to approach this professionally before escalating further. Any insight appreciated.

Extinct in the wild… Finally saw a Panamanian Golden Frog in person yesterday

Yesterday I went on my daughter’s school field trip to the The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and finally got to see a Panamanian golden frog in person.

Honestly, pictures don’t prepare you for how unreal they look. They almost seem fake or plastic, like someone painted a tiny frog by hand. They stay so still that it barely looks natural.

What really hit me though is the fact that this species is considered extinct in the wild due mainly to chytrid fungus and habitat loss. Seeing them behind conservation glass is beautiful, but also kind of sobering. These animals went from thriving in Panama’s streams to surviving almost entirely through captive breeding programs.

As a dart frog and day gecko keeper, moments like this are a reminder that the hobby can also play a role in appreciation, education, and conservation awareness — not just aesthetics.

Absolutely stunning animals. Probably one of the most surreal frogs I’ve ever seen in person.

One of my females taking plain calcium from the dish.

I keep a small dish of calcium without D3 available for my females and breeding pairs. With proper UVB in the enclosure, I like giving them access to plain calcium so they can take advantage of it when needed.

Breeding females especially seem to benefit from having that option available. You may not always see them use it, but sometimes you catch moments like this.

Proper UVB, proper supplementation, and free-choice plain calcium has worked really well in my setup.
