I have never filet crocheted before, but I haven't stopped thinking about this pattern I found on Pinterest. I would love to do this piece as wall art for my room, but I think it'll turn out to be way too massive (based on the measurements given on the chart). I'm wondering if there are tips to make a piece smaller in size without ruining the design?
I have crochet hook sizes 1, 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75, and I just ordered Aunt Lydia's classic 10 crochet thread.

Should I use the smallest hook I have? Would size 20 crochet thread be better? I'm thinking of doing 2dc/ch2 for it, but maybe there's a better way?

I'm also thinking of modifying the pattern and removing some of the empty space on the bottom, along with the top leaf and vines, to make the pattern shorter, but I'm thinking it may still be too long and wide. It won't help that I'd like to give it a small decorative border as well..

I know I should do a swatch (which I will eventually), I'm just impatient waiting for the thread to be delivered and want to start figuring this out.

Any advice or tips are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Note: I'm not planning on jumping into this as my first ever filet piece. I have a couple of smaller ones to start with for practice.
