I 37f and my husband, 30m have a family together with one shared child and one child of mine from previous marriage. They are 7 f and 2 m. Husband has cumulatively spent over $1000 in 3 months. Including the over $300 spent on the week of my birthday, leading to the need for me to not have a birthday present, though over $550 was spent on his birthday which is near Christmas I make a point to buy a present for each unlike his own family.
After calculations today, I came to him about the issue, admittedly livid about the situation as he purchased $140 worth of video game products today alone after he had prom less than an hour before to hold off on one of the 2 $70 purchases until next week. He says it’s “not about the money” and about “quieting the voices inside his head“.
I tr halving the amount as an example but he flat out refuses. We are on assistance currently so his constant spending could also potentially be a giant red flag. I told him he begged for a biological child but he hardly interacts with said child.
So Reddit, AITAH for suggesting a budget?
UPDATE: Husband has agreed to seek therapy and possibly medication. We’ll look for a good place tomorrow. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH
