  1. Install the BMW Scanner 1.4.0 software. The configuration is located in the PA Soft BMW Scanner folder.

1.1 - If you have previously installed drivers that are not working or are faulty, use the Device Manager to find and remove devices such as "USB Serial Port (in the Ports section) / USB Serial Converter / BMW Scanner, etc.

1.2 - Find "CDMUninstaller.exe" in the Scanner Drivers folder. Run the CDM uninstaller, add > uninstall any remaining driver components from the laptop, and reboot.

  1. Go to the Scanner Drivers folder and find the "ftdibus.inf" and "ftdiport.inf" files.

  2. Right-click on each file and select "Install" from the drop-down menu. These drivers are digitally signed, so there's no need to disable driver signature checking, test mode, or similar. You don't need to install anything via the Device Manager.

  3. Connect the scanner module to the car and then the USB part to the laptop.

  4. Run the PA Soft BMW Scanner software. It will recognize the drivers and module and go to the menu. The menu The software will prompt you to change the key setting. Turn the key one click to position 01 (KL 1 or ACC). The software should recognize the car via the module.

  5. Ready to use!

P.S. If the scanner software welcome screen says "Drivers are not installed," it means the drivers are not installed, not working properly, or the wrong drivers have been installed. Newer Windows operating systems require the latest FTDI drivers available on the official website. D2XX Drivers > click the software version under 64-bit Windows (Desktop).

If an operating system update causes the software to malfunction, go to the FTDI website (as mentioned above) and check if a more recent driver update has been released. If so,

download, extract, and install the two .inf files as instructed in step #3. This will overwrite the previous drivers.

If the scanner welcome screen says "hardware failure," it often means the scanner module It's not connected properly or not at all to the car. The actual device and cable rarely fail.BMW Scanner 1.4.0.zip - Google Drive

The main rules for a BMW E46 to have a near-perfect idle forever: 1) Do a smoke test when you see that something is not right; there must be no vacuum leaks whatsoever. 2) Check the oil cap and the oil dipstick: if the gaskets are worn, air will get in and it will not be good. 3) The CCV valve (or oil separator) is a primary cause of irregular idle and must always be in good condition. 4) Always keep the Idle Control Valve (ICV) and the throttle valve (it must be disassembled and must be as good as new after cleaning) thoroughly clean of any impurities, which is essential for maintaining constant rpm when stationary. 5) DISA valve: even if there are no vacuum leaks, it does not mean that it is 100%; some have two membranes and a broken one is enough to create irregular idle. 6) Replace the fuel filter every 20-25 thousand km. 7) Replace the spark plugs every 40-50 thousand km with original NGK or Bosch ones, respecting the original BMW codes for your car. 8) Replace the coils if there are misfire problems with original parts and always also the crankshaft sensors if there are problems with prolonged ignitions. 9) Keep the air filter and air flow meter clean. 10) Use a good brand cleaner to keep the injectors in good condition (additive in the tank) is recommended at regular intervals of about 5-7 thousand km, to maintain optimal performance, especially considering the age of the vehicle.
