Please recommend me a good quality bathroom basin tap.

Hi, I'd like to fit a unit that is reliable and for which spares are available. They are separates. I've Bristan are good. I'm in the UK.

Also, is there much variance in the shank length of taps. In other words, is there a good likelihood I'm going to have to alter the pipework.

There is no play in the pipe work as it leaves the wall, is this usually much of a problem?

Many thanks

Having trouble getting the correct size tap washers.

Hi. I'm in the UK. A couple of years ago I tried to get replacement tap washers and I bought various brands but none of them fit my bathroom basin taps. In the end I bought tap inserts from amazon. Two years on they are dripping and one of them is stiff. Again replacement washers won't fit.

I've replaced washers in the past in a different house and had no problem with the standard 1/2" and 3/4" washers fitting.

I'm guessing these non-standard units are probably Chinese in origin and that you probably can't get the replacement washers.

It'd be great to hear the experiences of others.

Many thanks.

Second species take three, have I got it right this time?

Hi, I can't believe I missed those dissonant tomes as passing notes in the last attempt. I'm not sure what the error regarding the cantus is all about, convoluted harmony.

As always, I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Many thanks.

Second species take two. I'd be grateful for any input on this please.

Hi, following on from yesterday's post I've reworked the example. I've included dissonances and aimed for a much smoother line. I didn't change it after inputting it into the checker. I'm not sure that what the checker is say is that useful.

But I'm a newbie to the realm of counterpoint and would welcome and be grateful for any feedback and help with this difficult subject.

Many thanks.

Help please with second species counterpoint.

Hi I've been messing around with for hours now and I'm getting no further forward.

I gave it my best shot in my note editor before putting it into the checker.

I decided to move on to second species because I was getting my first species correct straightaway.

I understand that in SS, the CP line is treated much the same as the CF as far as leaps etc is concerned. I'm just not getting it.

It'd be great if someone could give me some advice regarding the error messages in the above screen shot.

Many thanks.

Counterpoint question re mitigating leaps.

Hi, I've checked the about exercise with the Artinfuser checking tool and it tells me that everything is okay.

However, when I think about it, the leap between notes one and two isn't offset by a stepwise movement in the opposite direction. In which case the third not would be a C.

If there is anything else wrong with it, please let me know.

Just wondering if it is, in fact, incorrect. It sounds nice when played.

Many thanks.

A question about voice crossing in counterpoint. Please.

Hi, I'm new to counterpoint. Is it permissible to use a note of the same pitch as the peak of the cantus firmus in the counterpoint line? I may have been under the misapprehension that that would be classed as voice crossing.

I'd be grateful is someone could clear that up for me please.

Thanks

How many likely solutions are there for a given cactus firmus in first species counter point?

Hi, I'm new to this and am struggling to be honest. I thought if I knew how many solutions were likely, it would save me wasting time if I've already found all of the possible solutions.

I can't believe I missed the auto correct in the title ;o)

I'm working with eight bars.

Many thanks.

How do we present images correctly please?

Hi, I posted my first post earlier today which included an image. As I was posting there was a warning and I can't remember the wording but it suggested my post my be removed.. Also, it was to do with including text within the image. It'd be great if someone could let me know what the correct procedure is please.

Many thanks.

Counterpoint question please. Overlapping voices.

Hello good people. I'm new here. As I continue down this rabbit hole, I wonder if someone might look at my latest masterpiece and help me better understand this elusive subject. I don't see the overlapping voices as per the attached screen shot.

Many thanks.

Has anyone tried the Ars Nova Couterpointer 3 software?

I'm on Mac and there is no free trial. I see the software has not been updated for a year, which makes me wonder if it is still supported. Unless of course, it is so stable it hasn't needed to be updated.

If anyone has any other recommendations, that would be great, thanks.

Counterpoint. Can't seem to solve this ...

Hi, I'm using the book on counterpoint by Jonathan Peters.
He recommends the analysis tool for CP by Artinfuser.

Here is the stave with the cp exercise as analysed by Artinfuser: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c2sdCHcrJ6HAG_0fUaResJ5e68p-Cjiy/view?usp=sharing

The cantus firmus is the lower voice. The analysis tool tells me that the leap between D and G from bar 3 is an uncompensated leap. I'm not sure why that is. I'm not sure about the explanation given on the site.

I'm finding this a huge challenge. I do like the results though. I've alway been a seat of my pants musician in the past and it just isn't cutting it any longer.

I'd appreciate any help.

Many thanks.

Hi, I'm working through the Counterpoint Guitar Method by Jack Handyside. This is one of the exercises.

How did I do? I'm feeling a little more comfortable with it. It's surprising how difficult I'm finding it given how simple it looks on the surface.

Thanks

Hi,

I've noodled lazily on guitar for the best part of fifty years. Spend too much money on gear.
I wrote a piece over twenty years ago for two guitars, which I have long since lost.

I'm trying out Dorico and I wrote this piece on the first day. It's for my daughter. I've promised her since forever to write her a tune. This is what happened once I got going.

Constructive feedback welcome.

Many thanks.

For Ruth

It has been a bit of a learning curve. But I got there in the end. I'm impressed by this program and it beats trying to do it in Logic Pro. This is a VST plug in playing back the midi. But I will play it on my guitar soon.

Any thoughts and advice is much appreciated.

Hi, I've been battling now with this program for a few hours and have had a few issues. I'm writing a piece for guitar. I started out and all was fine. Then for some reason the notes were playing an octave too high. I then spent over an hour trying to figure out how to change the clef to the one with the 8 below the clef. I still can't find a way to do that. I can't highlight the clef and when I click the clef symbol on the right side of the screen, there are no clefs to choose from.

In the end I went into set up and reselected the player and reselected classical guitar as the instrument and all went back to normal.

I can write on a score but I don't really sight read that well. My understanding of notation is limited for sure. But I seem to remember that often in guitar music, the eight below the clef is left out because there is an assumption that the guitarists knows what the situation is and automatically plays the piece an octave lower. Is this the case?

It'd be nice to understand why the option to change clefs is not available, incase in need it in the future.

Many thanks.

If so, what was their reaction?

I promised I'd write my daughter a piece of music years ago and never really got around to finishing anything. So this time I'm going to see if I can see it through.

Tips on seeing it through to the end would be great.

I've got five bars to far. Let's see. ;o)
