I despise the way media glorifies self-harm

First of all this is a sensitive subject we're discussing so if you are uncomfortable or triggered by mentions of SH please click away for your own good.

As a person who genuinely nearly died because of self-harm a couple months ago, I think it's absolutely revolting how many people think it's a really cool and quirky thing to add to their characters to make them so 'unique' and 'relatable! They don't portray self-harm as an actual depressing and addicting coping method, they don't show the pain, fear, and genuine lifetime scars that come from it. They treat it like a cool quirky trend. That disgusts me.

I've seen so many artists purposefully doing this to their ocs, art of characters, and I wouldn't mind at all if it was spreading awareness of the actual danger that comes with this. Instead, they normalize it and promote it sometimes even, and make it seem like something completely normal that's totally okay to do to yourself because everyone else is doing it!

Self-Harm is HARMFUL. Self-Harm is an ADDICTION. Self-Harm is a THREAT to your life and if you're struggling with it, you are not alone, and I promise that reaching out will make your life so much better. If you're unable to, as someone who got over their self-harm addiction and is visiting a psychiatrist weekly, I'm also here for you. Don't let ANY media promote this as something 'cool' or 'okay' to do. It's not fine. I hope no one goes through what I, or any person with self-harm issues had to go through.
